52 Days of 52: Week 6

What the heck happened? Booster Gold has been a character I’ve really liked. He’s a fame-whore and it just makes sense to have a super-hero like that. But paying someone to dress up as a villain just so you can stop them for a publicity stunt? That’s crossing the line in my book. That’s just pathetic. And I’m not sure if I buy that the character would stoop that low. Which makes me think this only happened because the writers needed it to happen not because Booster would actually do it.

Then the next big section of the book is devoted to a fight between two Green Lanterns and these new Chinese superheroes calling themselves The Ten. I know there is a lot of weird stuff going on in all of “52” but this whole sequence just felt out of the blue and completely random. My guess is that The Ten will become important later in the storyline and showing them taking on Green Lanterns was just a way to establish them.

During the big fight sequence we do cutaway for a time to see Doctor Magnus and Morrow talking. Morrow is still in a prison cell and he’s still talking about super-geniuses disappearing. Clearly this is a plot line that is going to become important later. Also there just seems to be something fishy about Morrow. Almost like he’s playing dumb or something. Maybe he’s one of the big villians of the series and we just don’t know it yet? Otherwise… why would this plot be there?

Finally this issue ends with a crazy scene where Booster Gold enters a secret lab (see pic above). There is so much going on in the lab that I don’t think I can even write about it all. The biggest thing I noticed is several references to “World War III.” Now I don’t know much about DC continuity and I’ve managed to stay away from “52” spoilers, but I do know that “World War III” was a mini series that came out last spring. I’m guessing “52” will lead up to that.

I think one of the smaller things that really sticks out to me is that there are circles all over the chalk board and they are overlapping. They look like DNA strains, or cells dividing, or maybe even they are a reference to Crisis on Infinite Earths where all the worlds were merged into one.

Man there is just too much to write about regarding what’s in the lab.
