Concussion & Pneumonia

Filed under: Me — Scott King at 6:37 pm on Friday, November 30, 2007

Went to the doctors today before class and found out why I’ve not been feeling good… turns out I have a concussion and pneumonia (Oh and I also have my normal sinus infection but I’m used to those). I have no freaking idea where I got the concussion. I was shocked when the doctor told me I had one!

Edit the Super-Jumper

It’s Friday and I’m on campus so here is your weekly dose of Edit. Because of her super jumping abilities, she figured out how to jump ontop of my bookshelves. She likes to go up there when I’m writing and is always peeking down at me (as you can see in the second pic).

Race & Ethnicity in Screenplays

Filed under: American University — Scott King at 8:29 am on Friday, November 30, 2007

We had a conversation in my screenwriting class about adding race and ethnicity into scripts. I didn’t really participate because American University is a very “Socially Aware” school and I didn’t feel like arguing with people. However I did doodle the above-cartoon!

Halo Thursday

Filed under: Halo, Video Games — Scott King at 8:59 am on Thursday, November 29, 2007

It’s Thursday and I’m on campus, so here is your weekly “Halo 3″ pic! This one was taken on the single player campaign, level 3 I think. Don’t ask me what exactly that is in the background because I never played the original Halo and Bungie never bothered to explain the plot/story in the second and third version.

My 10 Favorite Christmas Specials & Movies

Filed under: Movies — Scott King at 8:58 am on Thursday, November 29, 2007

This list makes up my favorite Christmas specials/movies. These aren’t necessarily the “best” but are the ones that I personally have to watch every year for it to feel like Christmas time: (Read on …)

Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

Filed under: Movies — Scott King at 8:58 am on Thursday, November 29, 2007

I’ve never been a fan of the “I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus, underneath the mistletoe last night…” song. It just bothers me that someone’s Mom would make out with Santa, knowing he’s married. They lyrics of the classic song even describe how Mommy sits on Santa’s lap and tickles him behind his beard!

But last night a close friend told me “it’s not an affair, it’s the Dad dressed as Santa.” I can see where my friend is coming from… thinking it’s the father in a costume, but I guess I’m just a true-believer when it comes to Christmas and if the lyrics say its Santa then I believe it’s the real Santa. What’s your take on it?

Billie Piper Returns to “Doctor Who”

Filed under: Doctor Who, TV — Scott King at 8:57 am on Thursday, November 29, 2007

I know many “Doctor Who” fans hated Billie Piper, but Rose was the main reason I started watching the show. So I’m super happy to share the news that she will be returning for a three episode arc during the upcoming fourth season. No real details are known about the arc other than that it happens at the end of the season.

“Watchmen” Movie Set Pics

“Watchmen” director Zach Snyder shares the first stills of sets as well as some weird facts.

Here are a few interesting facts about the backlot:
• 5,800 feet of neon requiring 24,000 watts of power
• 100 unique and custom-designed graphics created for the various storefronts
• 5,000 square feet of custom posters (Read on …)

My first Eskimo Dave!

Filed under: Eskimo Dave, My Projects — Scott King at 10:53 am on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

It’s about freaking time. My first “Eskimo Dave” comic is online. The strip runs weekly and my first arc lasts three episodes. Another writer then steps in for a five issue run and then I’ll have 17 episodes back to back. That’s right… SEVENTEEN! So if you haven’t been reading the webcomic now is the perfect time to jump on board.

Name the Film

Filed under: American University, Movies — Scott King at 9:23 am on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

I have a professor offering extra credit points. All you have to do is name every movie that appears in the pic above (click it to enlarge). Although there are lots of movies there, its kinda weird how you can recognize a movie, even some of the really old ones, from just a single frame.

Artichokes

Filed under: American University, Sarah — Scott King at 9:19 am on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

This is an artichoke. I mentioned one in a screenplay and a classmate didn’t know what it was. The basic gist is that you boil or steam them and then eat its heart, but let me see if I can get Sarah to do a post explaining nutritional stuff or some recipes.

“Chuck” is Picked Up

Filed under: Chuck, TV — Scott King at 9:16 am on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

“Chuck” one of my favorite new shows was picked up for a full season! Man its sooooo funny. It’s that classic geek-humor that used to be in the light hearted episodes of “The O.C.” but with a an action/”Alias” setting. If you haven’t been watching it then use the strike as a reason to get caught up on the re-runs.

Battlestar Galactica: Razor

Filed under: BattlestarGalactica, TV — Scott King at 9:15 am on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

Did anyone see this? It premiered last week. I DVR-ed it and when I tried to watch it I was bored within five minutes. There was too much knife flipping and I just didn’t feel like investing in new characters or characters I didn’t care about. I wanted it to focus on the normal cast and not the Pegasus.

I mean don’t get me wrong, I’ll definitely watch it at some point. It just felt too “heavy” and didn’t get my attention right away so now I’m putting it off till later. But for those of you who did see it, how was it? Should I make it more of a priority to watch it or what?

“Alien” & “Aliens” Impressions

Filed under: Movies — Scott King at 9:07 pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Being really sick means I have tons of down time. The bad news is I’m too dizzy to play “Halo” or other video games, but I can get caught up on the stack of DVDs I have to watch, which is why I spent some time today with “Alien” and “Aliens” (something Jim Smash convinced me to do).

My first impression of both films is that even though they are 25-30 years old, they still hold up. The characters, the plot, the dialog, the pacing… it all still works. In fact, for the most part, even the special effects were effective. There were only two scenes in the first film where I thought “oh soooo a guy in a suite” and there was only one scene in the seconded where I thought “oh that’s sooo a model.” (Read on …)

Weird “Aliens”

I was trying to find a decent “Alien” picture and I stumped across the two pics above. The first is Mickey-Alien and the second is Vegetable-Alien.

Eskimo Dave and Super Fogeys on Wowio

Filed under: Eskimo Dave, Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 11:37 am on Monday, November 19, 2007

It’s a holiday week so I’m probbally not going to be posting at all (1 cause I”m busy and 2 cause it will be a slow news week). So before you take off from work and gorge on turkey check out “Eskimo Dave” and “Super Foggeys” on Wowio. I would really appreciate it you could give them a download. It’s totally FREE and each download earns Th3rd World Studios 50 cents (though the registration process takes about four minutes).

Download Eskimo Dave here and Super Fogeys here.

Here is your Halo pic of the week.

NBC Fraks “Galactica”

Filed under: BattlestarGalactica, TV, WGA Strike — Scott King at 11:07 am on Monday, November 19, 2007

Just like they did to “The Office” and “30 Rock,” NBC-Universal has fired the production staff of “Battlestart Galactica.” Not only that, but they have taken things a step further by suspended Galactica’s cast without pay. The cast isn’t fired, they are just on suspension and when the strike ends (if their contracts aren’t expired) they will be un-suspended.

On Ron Moore’s blog (creator of the show) he shares:

Galactica” showrunner Ron Moore revealed on his blog that production on episode 4.13 wrapped the previous night, there’s “no certain date to resume shooting. No more scripts exist. My office staff has been laid off. My cast has been suspended, without pay.

Although this may sound seriously scary to you Galactica fans, don’t worry. “Battlestar Galactica” is one of the Sci-Fi Channel’s babies and makes the network millions. The show WILL wrap up after the strike. Sci-Fi can’t afford it not to.

Dexter is my favorite serial killer EVER

Filed under: Dexter, TV — Scott King at 11:05 am on Monday, November 19, 2007

Wow. Dexter is such a good show! I can’t say more than that cause I don’t want to give any spoilers… but if you aren’t watching this then you really need to be!

Strike delays “Angels and Demons”

Filed under: Movies — Scott King at 11:04 am on Monday, November 19, 2007

The WGA strike has delayed “Angels and Demons,” the prequel to Dan Brown’s “The Da Vinci Code.” The script was finished before November 1st (the day the wga contract with the studios ended) but after reading the script, Sony feels it needs some work and thus has delayed the project until after the strike.

Bruce Willis in “The Surrogates”

Filed under: Comic-Movies, Comics — Scott King at 11:03 am on Monday, November 19, 2007

Bruce Willis will star in the film adaptation of “The Surrogates,” which is based off the Top Shelf graphic novel.

The story is set in the near future, where humans live in isolation and interact vicariously through surrogate robots who are better-looking versions of themselves. Willis plays a cop who, through his surrogate, investigates the murders of others’ surrogates. The cop is forced to venture from his own home for the first time in years and unravels a conspiracy.

The movie’s script is locked and even if the strike continues it is set to begin filming in Febuary.

WGA Strike: Talks will Resume

Filed under: WGA Strike — Scott King at 11:00 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

Good news! The WGA just posted on their site that will once again be meeting with media companies:

Leaders from the WGA and the AMPTP have mutually agreed to resume formal negotiations on November 26. No other details or press statements will be issued.

Maybe the studios will give the writers what they deserve and the TV season won’t be over!

Late Night Shows Hold Secret Meetings

Filed under: TV, WGA Strike — Scott King at 11:00 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

Variety Reports that top secret meetings have been taking place between the late night talk shows:

Reps for several of the major latenight skeins — including “Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”— have been engaging in secret backchannel conversations with each other about when it might be appropriate for their hosts to return to their studios. It’s unlikely anything will happen until after Thanksgiving, however–and even that could be optimistic.

Still, according to several network execs with knowledge of the situation, there’s been talk of resuming production on some shows as early as next month, with Dec. 3 and Dec. 10 mentioned as possible return dates. The problem with locking in a date: “Nobody wants to be the first to go back,” says one wag.

“Dirty Sexy Money” Picked Up

Filed under: TV — Scott King at 10:59 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

“Dirty Sexy Money” has been picked up for a full 22 episodes. Previously they were only signed for 13 and now the other 9 will be produced whenever the strike comes to an end.

“Friday Night Light’s” gains ex-Gilmore Boy

Filed under: Friday Night Lights, TV — Scott King at 10:57 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

“Gilmore Girls” alumi Matt Czuchry is joining “Friday Night Lights,” but instead of playing the wild and crazy bad boy he’ll be a devout Christina and possible love interest for Lyla.

New Love on “Grey’s”

Filed under: Grey's Anatomy, TV — Scott King at 10:53 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

So how did everyone feel about Patrick Dempsey’s new love interest on “Grey’s Anatomy?” The “invisible” nurse, who is being described as the “anti-Meredith,” introduced in a seriously annoying way. Just like Nikki and Paolo from “Lost” its seriously annoying when TV shows introduce a character and “pretend” the character was a background character we just didn’t see before.

“Beofulf” Top of Box Office

I’m a tad surprised that the naked-CGI- Angelina Jolie only raised $28 million at the box office this weekend.

Bad Drivers

Filed under: News News — Scott King at 10:50 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

I’ve been saying it for years and now I have scientific data to back up my opinion that people can’t drive.  A recent study showed that one in six people licensed drivers would fail if they were given a driving test.

Illinois, Georgia, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Massachusetts were the least knowledgeable states overall, with average scores under 75 percent.

I’ve posted the complete state ranking after the break: (Read on …)

Sarah Michelle Gellar is now a Prinze

Filed under: Celebrities — Scott King at 10:48 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

The former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star has taken her husband Freddie Prinze, Jr.’s last name in a romantic gesture for their fifth wedding anniversary. Personally, after five years, I don’t’ see what the big deal is, especially when he doesn’t even have a career anymore.

Seth Rogen is going to “Make A Porno”

Filed under: Casting, Movies — Scott King at 10:46 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks are set to start in Kevin Smith’s new movie “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.”  As usual, Scott Mosier will produce and Smith also wrote the script.

Just between you and me… I’m sort of scared that Smith is making the movie and that “porn” is in the title. This could go wrong is soooooo many ways.

Chewbacca Backpack

Filed under: Movies — Scott King at 10:43 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

This is a seriously ugly Chewbacca backpack that will automatically get any kid wearing it beat up. Not only that, but it doesn’t even look like a Wookie. It looks like some sort of cross-breed between a dog, a wookie, and an ewok.

Guitar Hero 3 on TV

Filed under: Gossip Girl, TV — Scott King at 10:40 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

Guitar Hero must be more popular then I realized. Not only did “South Park” devote a whole episode to it last week, but “Gossip Girl” of all shows had a five minute segment devoted to the game!

Friday!

Filed under: American University, Edit — Scott King at 9:40 am on Friday, November 16, 2007

It’s Friday so I’m on campus again all day. As a result… here is your weekly dose of Edit.  Right before I took the pics above I started to freak out because I couldn’t find Edit anywhere. I was terrified. I was calling her (which normally makes her come right me) but she wasn’t responding. Finally I heard a meek meow and went in the kitchen to see her yawning wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy up there!

Master Chief is about to get OWNED

Filed under: Halo — Scott King at 12:41 pm on Thursday, November 15, 2007

It’s Thursday, (which means I’m on campus all day), so here is your weekly “Halo 3″ pic. This one was taken on Snowbound during a zombie-infection match. Seconds after the pic was taken I tore through that guy using the energy sword.

52 Days of “52″

Filed under: 52, Comics, DC Comics — Scott King at 12:41 pm on Thursday, November 15, 2007

I’m up to Week 22 and I’m sad to say that I’m going to end the 52 days of “52.” It’s not because I can’t keep up, because I have then written up to Week 30. The problem is no one is reading these posts. I keep a pretty good eye on the stats to my site and I think there is only one person who has read everyone of these posts. Now if you are that one person and you are really enjoying these, just post a comment below letting me know and I’ll continue doing them. Otherwise I just don’t feel like investing the time to typing these all up if no one is reading them.

“The Office” is Over

Filed under: TV, The Office, WGA Strike — Scott King at 11:01 am on Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Just a warning… Tomorrow’s “The Office” is the last one we will see until after the strike. So if there isn’t a quick resolution, then we won’t get more time with the Dunder Mifflin crew until next fall.

Project Runway Returns!

Filed under: TV — Scott King at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Just a reminder, “Project Runway” returns tonight on “Bravo.” It’s one of the best reality TV shows EVER and if you are looking for something to watch because of the WGA Strike then now is a great time to try it out.

52 Days of 52: Week 21

Filed under: 52, Comics, DC Comics — Scott King at 10:59 am on Wednesday, November 14, 2007

It’s really hard to share my thoughts when nothing really happens. This issue focused almost solely on Lex Luther’s team of superheroes. Basically he let a girl, who he had kicked off the team, back on to it. Then when she was fighting a bad-guy, Lex turned off her powers, letting her get killed. He then used her death as a big media stunt. (Read on …)
