Sarah Is Here!

Filed under: Sarah — Scott King at 6:02 am on Sunday, August 10, 2008

Sarah (my bestest friend in the whole wide world) is in town so I’m not making normal posts this week. However, the marketing/pr company that sends me the free x-box games sent me a LG Dare Phone with the one stipulation that I use it for live blogging. So I figure this week would be a great week to try that out.

Evolution of a Signature

Filed under: Me — Scott King at 7:06 am on Wednesday, August 6, 2008

Above are the three signatures I’ve used over the course of my life. The first was used from kindergarten through fifth grade. The second was used from sixth grade through eleventh. The third one was born during the summer before my senior year of high school and I’ve used it ever since. What does your signature look like?

Having one of those classic family emergencies and won’t be back till… not sure yet.

Missing Comments

I just discovered that for some reason I’ve not been getting comments emailed to me. So for all of you who have left comments in the past 3-5 weeks, I’m seriously sorry. The problem has been fixed and I’ll once again be responding to comments.

Bring Your Daughter To Work Day

Filed under: American University, Edit — Scott King at 9:29 am on Wednesday, June 11, 2008

I know “Bring Your Daughter To Work Day” was back in April, but Edit had to come with me to work yesterday for a good seven hours. Without any warning I found out that the windows in my apartment were being replaced (which took all freaking day). Since I didn’t want to leave her home in an apartment with strange workmen and no windows, I took her to campus with me. She actually had a blast, though it got annoying when I was trying to do stuff in Final Cut Pro and she kept laying down between me and the keyboard.

Meerkat Manor

Filed under: Edit, TV — Scott King at 10:46 am on Friday, June 6, 2008

Edit (my cat) has figured out how to turn on the TV using the remote (though she has no clue as to how to change the channel). So now when I leave the apartment I always put the TV on Animal Planet before turning it off. As a result Edit has discovered Meerkat Manor and she LOVES the show. She either watches it mesmerized by the Whisker Family or she gets crazy hyper and runs around the apartment trying to play with them.

Now to be honest I’ve only watched the show in five or ten minute interviews. From what I’ve seen its “ok” and it is narrated decently by Sean Austin. So although I can’t personally recommend it, I can say that Edit fully endorses the show.

Happy Birthday Edit!

Awww my baby-girl is one year and four weeks old today. However it was a year ago today that I first got her!

Happy Holidays

Spent the holiday weekend doing work and a “Back to the Future” marathon. My goal is to get back to my normal schedule by the end of the week!

The Compulsions of a Storyteller

Filed under: Comics, Me — Scott King at 10:26 am on Wednesday, May 21, 2008

I just saw James Kochalka’s strip for yesterday (the first two panels appear above) and it completely clicked with me. His view on his art/storytelling is exactly the same way I see writing. Being a writing isn’t about being published or collecting a paycheck (though those things are very nice). A writer is someone who writes because they have to.

What happens is you get like a bazillion ideas, most of them really bad or really silly. But then out of nowhere you get a good idea and it kinda makes a nest in your brain. The idea lives in that nests and grows and grows and grows. It starts to drive you crazy and eats up all your other thoughts so that sometimes its hard to focus on anything but that idea.

So the only way to get rid of the idea is to write it out. Of course it’s a vicious cycle because right around the time you nearly clear the idea out of your head, another good idea forms a nest and festers until you sit down and write it out too.

Star Wars: My First Time

Filed under: Dad, Me, Movies — Scott King at 11:42 am on Wednesday, April 2, 2008

If you are from the generation before mine then you saw the original “Star Wars” trilogy in the theater. If you’re like me and weren’t born when “A New Hope” was playing on the big screen, then how did you first see it? Well this is the story of my first time… (Read on …)

Back

Filed under: Me — Scott King at 12:25 pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2008

As you can see, I’m officially back and posting will return to normal status. Also it seems the new computer I bought a while back wasn’t configured right and I’ve been missing about half of my emails.Currently I have over 500 emails in my inbox that aren’t spam that I didn’t realize I had. So if for some reason you’ve emailed in the past month and a half and I’ve not responded…. I’m sooooo sorry and you should be getting a reply over the next few days.

I’ll be back… soon.

On The Road Again

Filed under: Me — Scott King at 12:00 am on Monday, February 25, 2008

My birthday is quickly approaching so Edit and I have packed things up and gone to Cleveland (hehe we’re driving NOT flying). Not sure how long we are staying, but since she is coming, it will be for awhile. I had planned to make posts when I was there, but since my laptop is now dead that’s not possible. So I guess I’ll just see ya’ll on the flip side!

Twin Eggs

Filed under: Me — Scott King at 12:51 am on Saturday, February 23, 2008

Cracked an egg open today and got two yolks. If it hadn’t been something I was going to eat I would have thought “Hell yeah two for the price of one,” but since I was going to eat it all I could think was that it was laid by that three-eyed-“Simpsons”-fish.

Printer Trouble

Filed under: American University, Edit — Scott King at 8:39 am on Monday, February 18, 2008

Got a whole THREE hours of sleep last night. Edit still isn’t doing well and I’m finding it hard to do anything else but take care of her. Even when I try to get work done she cries and tries to get me to hold her. The pic above is her last week getting her head stuck in my printer. I had to rip the top of the printer off to get her out (it’s ok cause it was already broken, only the scanner worked). I’m hoping to go to class today but if she’s still doing bad I don’t want to leave her alone.

Not on Campus

Filed under: American University, Edit — Scott King at 10:54 am on Friday, February 15, 2008

It’s Friday, but I’m not on campus. Instead I’m taking care of Edit who got spayed yesterday. I picked her up from the animal hospital about two hours ago and ever since she’s wanted me to hold her nonstop. Overall she seems ok, except that she 100 percent despises the cone that she has to wear. Updated On Sat @ 9:29am: She was a mess last night and I got less than an hour of sleep. She kept crying and would only stop when I held her. Then when I tried to sleep she kept bumping me in the face with the cone because she still wanted me to hold her. I really hope things aren’t like this for the next 10-14 days.

On Campus

It’s Friday, which means I’m on campus all day, so here’s your weekly dose of Edit. Her newest thing is that she’s figured out how to open the fridge. Whenever she gets hot (normally after playing) she’ll open the fridge and lay down in it. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to keep her from opening it, but so far the only idea I’ve come up with is duck tape.

I’m Rich!

Filed under: Me — Scott King at 12:02 am on Friday, February 1, 2008

I’m RICH Suckahs! I just got an email informing me that I just received a huge inheritance:

We wish to notify you again that you were listed as a beneficiary to the total sum of £6,000,000.00 GBP (Six Million British Pounds) in the codicil and last testament of the deceased. (Name now withheld since this is our second letter to you). We contacted you because you bear the surname identity and therefore can present you as the beneficiary to the inheritance. We therefore reckoned that you could receive these funds as you are qualified by your name identity. All the legal papers will be processed upon your acceptance.

Upon your acceptance of this deal, we request that you kindly forward to us your letter of acceptance, your current telephone and fax numbers and a forwarding address to enable us file necessary LEGAL documents in your name at our high court probate division for the release of the fund in question. Please contact me immediatley so that we can get this done immediately.

What’s odd is that I just don’t remember getting a first email and I double checked my spam folder and didn’t see it in there either. Also, isn’t it funny he spelled “immediately” wrong the second time? Oh well, guess I better hurry up and give them all my personal information so that they can give me my money!

Why I don’t Bake

Filed under: Me — Scott King at 12:15 am on Thursday, January 24, 2008

I hate baking. I think it’s stupid. It’s dumb because I’m not a “sweet” person and its dumb because its like being in a science class. Its not like other cooking where you can really change recipes up or not follow them exactly. Baking is about precision and any tweaks to recipes have to be very delicate-like. So its no surprise that my attempt to make sugar free pumpkin-oatmeal cookies came out looking like fried chicken. It’s really wierd just HOW much the cookies look like fried chicken, but anyway, let me walk you through my baking process.

On Campus

Filed under: American University, Edit — Scott King at 5:27 pm on Friday, January 18, 2008

It’s Friday which means I’m on campus all day. So as usual, here is your weekly does of Edit. This is her back in December being mesmerized by her first snow. It actually snowed yesterday and just like a month ago she spent the WHOLE day staring out the window. At one point I even opened one of the smaller windows and she went nuts trying to catch the snowflakes before they melted.
