Frodo in “The Hobbit?”

MTV asked Elijah Wood if he would be returning as Frodo for the two “Hobbit” films and he said:

I haven’t spoken to Jackson directly about it, but I’ve e-mailed him, and as far as I know, the two films that they’re doing, one will be ‘The Hobbit’ and another will take place between the 60 years that happened between ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’. If I’m asked to go back and revisit that character and it makes sense, I would love to. I would absolutely love to.”

Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks are set to start in Kevin Smith’s new movie “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.”  As usual, Scott Mosier will produce and Smith also wrote the script.

Just between you and me… I’m sort of scared that Smith is making the movie and that “porn” is in the title. This could go wrong is soooooo many ways.

Alexis Bledel in College Comedy

Filed under: Casting, Movies — Scott King at 10:55 am on Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Admit it! You miss “Gilmore Girls” as much as I do. But although we won’t be seeing Rory again anytime soon, Alexis Bledel has been cast in “Ticket to Ride.” Bledel plays Ryden Malby, a college grad who is forced to move back into her childhood home with her eccentric family while she attempts to find a job, the right guy and some direction for her life.

Kelly Fremon penned the screenplay and Vicky Jenson (”Shark Tale,” “Shrek”) will direct the $15 million project which is set to begin shooting next month.

Narcissa Malfoy

Filed under: Casting, Movies — Scott King at 10:53 am on Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Helen McCrory will play Narcissa Malfoy in the film adaptation of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”.

For those of you uneducated in the ways of “Harry Potter,” Narcissa is sister of Bellatrix Lesrange (Helena Bonham Carter) and mother of Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton). Interestingly enough, McCrory was originally cast as Bellatrix Lestrange in this year’s “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” but had to pull out due to an impending pregnancy.

The sixth “Harry Potter” installment opens in theaters on November 21st 2008.

Zachary Quinto as young Spock.

Filed under: Casting, Movies — Scott King at 10:17 am on Tuesday, November 13, 2007

The first photos of Zachary Quinto as a young Spock have hit the internet. I’ve liked Quinto since he first showed up on “Heroes” and I gotta say, its surprising how un-Sylar-like he looks. I thought it would be almost impossible to see him as anything but a homicidal maniac but he definitely pulls off the Spock-look.

Jennifer Morrison joins “Star Trek XI”

Filed under: Casting, Movies — Scott King at 10:15 am on Tuesday, November 13, 2007

What is going on with J.J. Abrams “Star Trek” movie? The cast keeps growing and growing. Are all these additions just playing bit parts, starring roles, or what? The newest additions include “House’s” Jennifer Morrison. Rumor has it that she’s playing Carol Marcus, the civilian biologist who’s affair with Kirk in her youth led to a son, who first appeared in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.”

In addition to Morrison, Australian soap-star Chris Hemsworth has been cast as George Samuel Kirk Sr, the father of Captain Jame’s T. Kirk.

New script-breakdown have also been leaked and they suggest the plot of the movie involves, not only time-traveling Romulans who alter the course of history, but also The Guardian of Forever. I don’t know much about Star Trek but I became very familiar with The Guardian of Forever during the Paramount sponsored writing contest on FanLib.

Mark Walhberg has replaced Ryan Gosling in the “Max Payne” film. The movie is based on the 2001 video game which focuses on a semi-dirty cop who can slow down bullets via “The Matrix’s” bullet-time.  The story is very “Punisher” like because he takes down a whole criminal organization to avenge the death of loved ones.

Star Trek XI Update

Filming began two days ago on the J. J. Abrams “Star Trek” revision and as a result new casting choices have become clear. The biggest of which is that Winona Ryder is playing Spock’s mother.

Also joining the cast is Bruce Greenwood who has been cast as Captain Christopher Pike. Pike appeared in the original unaired pilot that Gene Roddenberry created. Scenes from the rejected pilot were then re-incorporated into a two-part episode entitled “The Menagerie.”

William Shatner Still Not In “Star Trek XI”

Filed under: Casting, Movies — Scott King at 6:22 pm on Tuesday, October 23, 2007

William Shatner is still saying, very vocally that he is not involved with J.J. Abram’s “Star Trek XI.” In a new video posted on his website he says:

I don’t know where they are getting their information from,” Shatner said. “I have not been offered, or even suggested … the word has not come down. And a cameo? I can’t imagine why I would do a cameo. (Read on …)

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are in negotiations to reunite for the fourth installment of Universal’s “Fast and the Furious” franchise, says The Hollywood Reporter. It seems both actors careers have stooped too such a low point that this is the only acting role they can get.

The newest casting rumor for J.J. Abram’s “Star Trek” movie is that actor Mike Vogel, from Abram’s “Cloverfield” has now been cast as a young Captain Kirk. Everyone seems to be spreading the rumor but I can’t get any confirmation or denial from my sources on if its true or not. You might recognize Vogel from “Sisterhood of the Travling Pants” or “Chainsaw Massacrer.”

But because I love you guys I did manage to find some plot spoilers for the film (major spoilers so be careful if you don’t want to know) (Read on …)

My secret scoop source is telling me that Zachary Quinto (Sylar from “Heroes”) has officially been cast as Spock in the next “Star Trek”. There has been no official word from the studio, but Paramount is supposed to announce casting later this week at the San Diego Comic-Con. “Star Trek XI” is being directed by J.J. Latino Review are kicking butt this weekend and have reports of two people cast in the upcoming “Watchmen” movie adaptation.

Malin Akerman (”Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,” “The Invasion”) has landed the plum role of Sally Jupiter aka The Silk Spectre. She is the former crimefighter turned scientist who lives with the powerful entity Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup).

The site also confirms that Jackie Earle Haley has been cast as the key character of Walter Kovacs aka. Rorschach. Rorschach finds himself the only person who believes there is a plot to kill off all the retired superheroes as he investigates the murder of a former teammate The Comedian.

Ray Stevenson, most recently known as playing the brutish but good Titus Pullo in HBO’s “Rome”, will play the title role in the upcoming “Punisher” sequel.

Lexi Alexander is directing the follow-up to the modest 2004 hit which starred Thomas Jane in the title role. Jigsaw is said to be the villain, but who’s playing it will probably not be announced until Comic-Con.

Christina Applegate has been cast as the female lead opposite Rainn Wilson in Fox Atomic’s music-themed comedy “The Rocker” says The Hollywood Reporter.

The film centers on a failed, over-the-hill drummer (Wilson) who, 20 years after getting booted out of his now uber-famous band, gets a second chance at fame with a new act, a high school garage band headed by his nephew (Josh Gad). Applegate plays Wilson’s love interest and the mother of the lead guitarist in the garage band.

Ross, a classic “Hulk” character from the comic book’s beginning in 1962, is Banner’s fellow scientist and an ally in his quest to rid him of his lurking monster deep inside. The movie will unfold with Ross estranged from Banner (Norton), but with the pursuit of the Hulk heating up and Banner on the run trying to cure his condition, Ross finds herself swept back into his life.

Film is set to start sometime this summer and no release date has been set for the film.

Leslie Bibb joins Iron Man

Leslie Bibb, who I know from WB’s “Popular” but most know her from “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” has been cast in “Iron Man.” Since Gwyneth Paltrow is the leading female, Bibb’s role is probably a small one.

Orlando Bloom in Superman Sequel?

Filed under: Casting, Comic-Movies, Movies — Scott King at 10:18 am on Wednesday, April 11, 2007

orlandobloom.jpg
Seems that Orlando Bloom was spotted at the Tower Bar restaurant in Hollywood with “Superman Returns” producers Mindy and Jon Peters and the movie’s director, Bryan Singer.

Big deal, he was probably there with girlfriend Kate Bosworth right? According to Just Jared no, seems Bloom was actually there to talk business - more specifically a role in the upcoming sequel “Superman: The Man of Steel.”

What that role might be is unknown has lent itself to frenzied Net chatter. With Routh signed for several films, some have said villain. Others have speculated that it’s as Lois Lane’s new love interest (makes the most sense), but for some reason I can’t help but think Brainiac.

Tom Hanks in “Angels & Demons”

Filed under: Casting, Movies — Scott King at 10:18 am on Wednesday, April 11, 2007

tomhanks.jpg
That Oscar winner Tom Hanks and his unfortunate coif have finally signed on for the Da Vinci Code prequel Angels & Demons should be no surprise, but apparently he’s getting the “biggest salary ever paid to an actor in the history of Hollywood.” Cinema Blend.com claims a source confirms that Hanks will return for the adaptation of author Dan Brown’s other novel, which introduced Hanks’ Dr. Robert Langdon character.

Also scheduled to be on board: Ron Howard as director, Akiva Goldsman penning the script and model Gisele Bündchen as a co-star. The start date is set for July. Da Vinci of course, topped $750 million at the box office, and Cinema Blend notes Hanks’ salary for this one — in which we find Langdon investigating the Illuminati, a secret society whose members have supposedly discovered the power of antimatter, which they plan to use to destroy Vatican City — could top $50 million.

Laura Dern says that Steven Spielberg asked her to be in “Jurassic Park 4″

“Well a certain fellow is the one that called me and it’s hard to say no to him cause he’s always got something totally genius up his sleeve so we’ll see what they have in mind. But I don’t know anything about it at this point. I’m told it’s happening and I’m told they’re calling me. I’m told that Ellie Sattler is involved in it. I think within the year. I think they want to release it in 2008.”

It seems the long awaited “X-Files” movie sequel may actually be made. A script was finished last year but legal issues between the shows creator and Fox were putting the movie on hold. However, David Duchovny told The IESB this week that “they were in final negotiations for the second X-Files film and should wrap this week. Plans are to start shooting next year or sooner.”
