Th3rd World’s newest book “Creature Feature” has a nice feature (pun intended!) over at Newsarma. This is the anthology with people like Chris Yost, C.B. Cebulski, Stuart Moore, and Andy Schmidt. If you’re a fan of horror books this is a MUST for you (DCD#: # JUL084217).

About freaking time! A new episode of “Eskimo Dave” is online. Most of our crew is busy in NYC at the convention but some of us who didn’t go finally got the newest episode up. It’s just so weird cause I wrote these scripts back in semptember. Man artist are a bitch to work with.

Th3rd World Breaks into the Top 300!

Filed under: Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 6:58 am on Saturday, March 22, 2008

We found out this week that “Space Doubles” made the Top 300 comics in Febuary!

The major publishers’ slates were actually smaller in February 2008 than they had been in recent months — the top five publishers placed 232 comics in the Top 300, versus 246 in January. The result was that 32 publishers made the Top 300, a larger number than in a while. One new publisher made the list for the first time: the numerically named Th3rdworld, whose Space Doubles #1 came in 300th place.

While Th3rdworld’s offering was at the $2.99 level, historically, smaller publishers have generally had higher price points — and one partial result of the leaner major-publisher offerings last month may have been seen in the average cost of comics in the Top 300. It was the highest ever recorded.

So we owe a big thanks to all the retailers that ordered it and all the readers who bought it!

Eskimo Dave

My newest episode of “Eskimo Dave” has been posted online. If you’ve not been reading them while I was on break/vacation now is the perfect time to get caught up!

New Eskimo Dave

Filed under: Eskimo Dave, Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 12:47 am on Friday, February 22, 2008

The newest Eskimo Dave is up, but you’ll have to read it at Drunk Duck because Mike’s baby has a bad fever and he didn’t get a chance to post it on the Th3rd World site.

Also, some behind-the-scenes drama… when I saw the inks of this week’s strip I was like “Why is Gandolfini holding a salt shaker?” And Mike said “No you idiot it’s the coin like you scripted.” Now in my defense the b&w version or the artwork does look like one of the ghetto salt/pepper shaker, but even so he won’t stop brining it up!

New “Eskimo Dave”

Filed under: Eskimo Dave, My Projects — Scott King at 12:55 pm on Wednesday, February 13, 2008

Episode 44 of “Eskimo Dave” is online. The reference to cheese, specifically brie cheese should make it more than obvious that I wrote it, but putting aside my brilliant skills as a writer, I think now is an excellent time to say just how awesome the art looks this week. Mapping out the long term storyline and overall tone of “Eskimo Dave,” we really wanted it to have a Ducktales/Bone-like feel to it and this week’s art completely accomplishes that (specially when you see the colored version).

“Space Doubles” Gets Pirated

Filed under: Comics, Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 10:05 am on Thursday, February 7, 2008

Man “Space Doubles” must be good because in less than 24 hours of its release its being pirated. What I don’t understand is… its not like we are Marvel or DC. If you download an illegal copy of “One More Day” the only person you’re hurting is yourself (true story: new a guy who went blind from reading it), but do comic-bootlegers realyyyyyy need to put illegal copies of a book from a small publisher online?

A publisher our size needs every sale. Not only for monetary value, but because Diamond pressures very hard for small publishers to release one or two floppy-issues and then re-solicit as a graphic novel. I’ve talked to several other companies in situations similar to ours and its frustrating because when Diamond is whispering in your ear saying “re-solicit or get canceled” what choice do you have? Either you burn the retailers and fans who invested in the floppy version of your book or you risk Diamond laying the smack down. So illegal downloading really does affect us small guys and its not cool!

“Space Doubles” In Stores Now

Filed under: Comics, Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 12:14 pm on Wednesday, February 6, 2008

Th3rd World’s second book “Space Doubles” is out today. If you’ve not ordered a copy and your local comic shop doesn’t get overships then go down there and DEMAND politely ask the store to order it.

New “Eskimo Dave”

Filed under: Eskimo Dave, My Projects — Scott King at 12:02 am on Friday, February 1, 2008

It totally slipped my mind that my next run on “Eskimo Dave” started this week. The next eight episodes are the turning point of ACT I for the first “long term” story arch so they are a tad more plot-heavy compared to normal episodes, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

DAD! Lettering Done

Filed under: Dad! (Comicbook), My Projects, Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 12:57 am on Thursday, January 31, 2008

“DAD!” has been lettered and passed onto proof readers and editors. The game plan now is to get back corrections that need to be made to the art and lettering. Once that happens there will be several more rounds of proof reading before ARC (advance reading copies) will be printed for marketing purposes. So as of now, it looks like we are still on schedule for an October ’08 release!

Th3rd World Studios at New York Comic-Con

Filed under: Comics, Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 10:20 pm on Tuesday, January 29, 2008

Just got word that Th3rd World has half a booth for the NYC-Con. The convention, which was previously held in the winter, will be from April 18th-20th. As long as things align that should be the perfect time for some big announcements (damn you lawyers and legal paperwork).

DAD! Update

Filed under: Dad! (Comicbook), Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 12:09 am on Friday, January 25, 2008

Getting the rough (keyword is “rough”) lettering done this weekend on “DAD!” so unless there is a big news story, don’t expect updates. But hey, give me some credit, I at least did some posting today when I don’t normally post at all on Fridays.

Omega Chase Online

Filed under: Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 8:43 am on Monday, December 17, 2007

Omega Chase is now being posted on the Th3rd World site as well as on Drunk Duck. We are currently posting a page a day (mon-fri) and will continue to do so until the first four issues are online. Once they are up, we’ll start posting issues 5-8 (which are currently being worked on by the artist) and collect the whole thing as a trade.

It’s about freaking time. My first “Eskimo Dave” comic is online. The strip runs weekly and my first arc lasts three episodes. Another writer then steps in for a five issue run and then I’ll have 17 episodes back to back. That’s right… SEVENTEEN! So if you haven’t been reading the webcomic now is the perfect time to jump on board.

Eskimo Dave and Super Fogeys on Wowio

Filed under: Eskimo Dave, Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 11:37 am on Monday, November 19, 2007

It’s a holiday week so I’m probbally not going to be posting at all (1 cause I”m busy and 2 cause it will be a slow news week). So before you take off from work and gorge on turkey check out “Eskimo Dave” and “Super Foggeys” on Wowio. I would really appreciate it you could give them a download. It’s totally FREE and each download earns Th3rd World Studios 50 cents (though the registration process takes about four minutes).

Download Eskimo Dave here and Super Fogeys here.

More Eskimo Dave

Mike would KILL me if he knew I was sharing this, but he’s at the airport waiting to leave for a 10 day vacation so I figure I can be bad and not get in trouble. The pic above are samples of the rough panels on one of my Eskimo Dave strips.

Space Doubles Preview

Filed under: Comics, Th3rd World Studios — Scott King at 6:56 am on Thursday, October 25, 2007

I’m on campus so I figured now would be an excellent time to pimp out “Space Doubles.” The five-issue mini series is in the current issue of Previews and its Diamond Order # OCT073781.

In a nutshell, “Space Doubles” is a retro-double feature showcasing some of the hottest/upcoming talent in comics, is presented in flip-format with each half of the book telling an original sci-fi tale ranging from alien invasions to space flight to just about everything in between.

Issue one features “Obeah” by Leah Moore and John Reppion (“Albion” and “Witchblade”) and “Red Rain” by Mike Raicht (“Deadworld: Frozen Over” and Marvel’s “MAX Zombie”). Moore’s tale is set against the backdrop of a blackened planet and focuses on the scientists attempting to colonize it while in Raicht’s story, something large enough to be seen by the eye has landed on the moon and it’s up to a team of seven to investigate.

If the book sounds interesting check out a preview here and be sure to tell your local comic shop to order the book.

And We Are Back

Filed under: An American King, Eskimo Dave — Scott King at 7:26 pm on Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Everything is on the new server and things seem to be running smoothly. Fingers crossed everything will be ok now. In addition to moving the site I also updated some of the coding, settings, and static pages. For example you’ll now find “An American King” listed under films. I’ve posted the rough-rough cut of the short film and will get the final version posted sometime near the end of the semester.

I’ve also added “Eskimo Dave” to comics. This is a comic being published by Th3rd World Studios. I was basically brought on board to handle the overall structure and organization of it. I planned out a long term story line and broke it into a whole bunch of arcs. Those arcs are being written by myself and several other staff writers. My first arc will appear in a few weeks and I’ll be sure to post more about it then.

Diamond Woes

barcode.jpg
Diamond announced two weeks ago that they would require barcodes on every product they distribute. Since I’m not sorta in charge of an independent comic book publishing company (Th3rd World Studios) I was really upset to hear this.

Right away I contacted our diamond rep who basically shrugged and said “uhhh I dunno what’s going on.” Our rep then attended big meeting where everything was explained and he got back to us again and said “Well I know now that this takes affect starting with books shipping in January and other than that they are preparing paperwork to inform the publishers on how this will work.”

So its been two weeks and Diamond still hasn’t really told us what is going on. This is a huge deal and drastically affects small publishers like ourselves. You’d think diamond would have their shit together and bother letting the people who are really affected by this know what is going on. (Read on …)

Th3rd World Studios and Me

I guess its time to finally fill you all in on something that has happened over the past few months. I’m now the Executive Editor of Th3rd World Studios, an independent comic book publisher. Basically “Executive Editor” means I’m higher up than the Editor and Chief but just under the “Publishers.”

Th3rd World will be publishing “DAD!” my documentary graphic novel as well as another project that is currently in production. I’ll also be writing the majority “Eskimo Dave” their all ages web comic.

Right now I can’t say much more, but I’ll have news in the next few weeks.
