Bad news for “Friday Night Lights” fans. Gaius Charles (Smash) and Scott Porter (Jason), have been taken off contract and will only appear on a recurring basis in Season 3. The producers are saying that this was a creative decision since both characters are out of high school, however word on the street is that this was done because of budget cutbacks.

NBC announced their full primetime schedule today. Biggest changes include SNL doing a Thursday night political show, “the office” spin-off, and “Knight Rider” airing on Wednesdays. I’ve posted the full line-up after the break… (Read on …)

Remember when I posted two weeks ago that “Friday Night Lights” was renewed? Well NBC decided to officially announce it. The show will be back midseason with all its juicy goodness!

This is some of the most exciting news I’ve heard over the past few weeks… FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS will be back next season! For a scripted drama, the show is actually pretty cheap to produce, it just isn’t bringing in high advertising revenue. So to supplement the show’s cost, NBC struck a deal with Direct TV so that new episodes will be available at both places at the same time.

The second season of “Friday Night Lights” has come to an end and fans are already preparing a “Save Our Show”-type of campaign. Even if NBC doesn’t pick it up for a 3^rd season there is a good chance the show could get picked up by CW, USA, or another cable network because it’s a very low-cost show to produce. So if you want to show your support than buy a light bulb (GE owns NBC) and mail it to the following address with the message “Keep the Lights on.”

5) In the most recent episode they made references to Richard Simons, Napoleon Dynamite, and West Side Story.

4) There is hardly any football on the show so if you are like me and hate sports it’s perfect!

3) They did a tornado episode and instead of dealing with it like a melodramatic sweeps stunt (I.E. exactly how “Desperate Housewives” did) they handled it realistically in a quick and simple way. But even so, the lasting affects of the tornado (a rival town’s school was trashed so their students are now attending the show’s main high school) have had lasting effects without having to kill off a non-main character.

2) Coach Taylor is the best TV father since Keith Mars.

1) There is a writers strike and just about every TV show has gone off air. However, “Friday Night Lights” was able to produce 16 episodes in the time it took most shows to get 8-10 done. This means there are still five episodes that haven’t aired yet!

“Gilmore Girls” alumi Matt Czuchry is joining “Friday Night Lights,” but instead of playing the wild and crazy bad boy he’ll be a devout Christina and possible love interest for Lyla.
