We visited it last year on our way back from New Orleans.<\/p>\n<p>It was gorgeous to see, but one of the first times I&#8217;ve ever visited a historical site and saw slave quarters. What was interesting though is that a slave who lived their in the mid 1860&#8217;s was big into plant grafting and breeding. He invented a type of pecan tree called a &#8220;papershell.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The crazy thing is that we have a papershell tree in our back yard at our house in Texas! So our tree in some shape or form can trace it&#8217;s origin back to the plantation. Very wierd.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the Oak Alley Plantation in Louisiana.
