X-wing is a tactical miniatures game where you fly various ships from the Star Wars universe in a fast paced dog fight. It’s awesome. In fact it is so awesome that I’m not going to try to review it. If you are into Star Wars or into gaming then you should own it. That’s it. Enough said.
So with that out of the way, what I do want to do is share with you some of the beauty of the components. It is a gorgeous game and the detail on the ships is some of the best I’ve ever seen.
This is an extreme close-up of the Millenium Falcon with a macro lens. So keep in mind that the radar dish is actually smaller than my pinky nail.
Here is a full shot of the ship. It’s the biggest one currently in release and like all the other ships it’s made to scale, which you can see in the photo below.
This is pretty close to what actual battles look like when playing. The only thing I really cheated on is using the printed star field photos (which I took in Rehoboth, De).
Googling, I’ve seen players use some crazy detailed Death Star trenches and other thematic tables. It would’ve been awesome to shoot photos using something cool like that, but unfortunately I don’t know anyone THAT geeky.
These aren’t just dice, they are cool eight sided custom dice!
The flagship of the X-wing series… an X-wing!
This is another macro shot. When they say that it’s a “miniatures” game they really mean it!
It’s a ship graveyard!
